The Unopened PageA PUBLIC TEST OF CURIOSITY

SMALL PRINT, PLAIN WORDS.

How this page works.

The game

Everyone faces one redacted English Wikipedia article. Try a word to reveal matching words in your own copy. Work out the article title, then enter it in the same box. Only the first correct title wins; a new page immediately starts for everyone. Previously revealed words and guesses belong to the previous page.

We select familiar subjects across food, animals, plants, everyday objects, nature, arts, games and technology. This does not guarantee that every article is easy. Matching ignores letter case and spaces. Common plural forms match their singular form. Hints begin after 24 hours and advance every 12 hours. The clock measures the time since the page was published.

Fair play

There is no account or prize. You may choose a nickname before answering; it appears in the public archive if you win. Please keep it suitable for everyone. Limits are 600 guesses per UTC day, 2,000 per page, and 30 per minute. They protect play from automated flooding. Searching for the answer or automated solving is outside the intended experience.

Wikipedia credits

The text is an excerpt adapted by hiding words and shortening articles. Original articles are written by Wikipedia contributors and made available under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0. Source, revision and contributor history links become available in the archive when a page is solved, to keep the current answer hidden. Adapted article text is shared under the same license. Wikipedia does not endorse this game.

Privacy

We count page loads as visits, including reloads. Anonymous visit IDs link visits to guesses and estimate focused interaction time. We store only a source category (such as itch.io or search), not full referring URLs or search terms. Individual visit records are kept for 30 days and source totals for 90 days. Missing referral information is reported as direct or unknown.

A random browser session token and your optional nickname are stored in your browser. The server stores a hash of that token, your guesses, their times and matches, and public winning records. This identifies a browser session, not your real identity. Browser storage can be cleared to start a new session.

IP addresses are used temporarily in memory to limit flooding. They are not written into the game's database. The hosting provider may process technical request information separately. Do not put personal information into words or nicknames. This version has no advertising, marketing pixels, or connection to the Japanese version's accounts.
